It’s hard to believe that Taste of the Market has come and gone again already! I hope that you all had a chance to taste all of the great local products, chat with some of the vendors, and get inspired to take on this season of entertaining and potlucks with your head held high.

Just in case you missed it, we’ve made a list of 10 takeaways we learned at Taste of the Market!

You can mix Ferment4Health’s Dill Pickle Sauerkraut with a plain greek yogurt and serve as a chip dip! Packed with flavour and probiotics, this appetizer can be thrown together for that party you just remembered you promised an appetizer for.

Create a 3 Ingredient Crostini: ParmeBickies, West Coast Select Salmon Pate & Hellish Relish:

These three products come together for a mouth-watering crostini! When we sat all three together in a row at our event, we had no idea that they’d conspire and come up with this winning combination.

Spread a generous dollop of mild and creamy salmon pate on a crunchy parmeBickie and top with spicy Hellish Relish for a treat that’s savoury, indulgent, creamy, spicy, and crunchy all at the same time!

This sauce can be mixed with cranberries for an incredible Cranberry Chutney! Who would have though BBQ sauce could do that? Get the recipe, here!

Chef Pieter’s White Cheddar Habanero can be stuffed into mushroom caps and baked!

Smak Dab Cranberry Wine mustard pairs perfectly with baked brie – simply smear a spoonful of the mustard onto the surface of the brie, wrap it in puff pastry, and bake.

Nonna Pia’s Balsamic Reductions can be used to line the rim of all kinds of drinks! Here’s some examples that make use of a few other products you tasted at Taste of the Market:

Pink Grapefruit Martini
½ – 1 tsp. Nonna Pia Pink Grapefruit Reduction

1 ½ oz. Vodka or Gin

Phillip’s Artisnal Dry Tonic

Ice, to shake

Sprig of Rosemary

Chili Lime Caesar

Rim Caesar glass with Nonna Pia’s Chili-Lime Reduction

1 oz vodka

4oz Walter Craft Caesar Mix

1 squeeze fresh lemon juice

Garnish with a lime wedge & chili

Healthy Hooch can be used as a fizzy base for cocktails, such as a Mule or Mojito! Get a hit of probiotics, with this uniquely flavourful concoction.

Make sure you keep some of Knight’s dark chocolate bars on hand this season – you can make chocolate covered cherries & chocolate covered grapefruit at home for dessert when entertaining – the freshness of the fruit mixed with the smooth, rich chocolate makes for a very satisfying treat.

Chocolate Covered Fruits

  • Before your guests come, line a sheet pan with parchment paper and lay out fresh pitted cherries and pieces of grapefruit. Freeze until ready to coat in chocolate.
  • After dinner, melt the chocolate on the stovetop (bring water to a boil and let simmer, and put a pot overtop with the chocolate in it – don’t add chocolate until it’s simmering.)

Dip the frozen fruit into the chocolate – the heat and cold will help the chocolate solidify and set. Serve right away!

Chocolatas salted caramel milk chocolates are fantastic – but there is a right and wrong way to eat them! Place the chocolate rounded side down on your tongue, and hold it there to melt the chocolate before biting down to release the caramel. Seriously, this method makes all the difference.

Pink Spatula’s salted caramel marshmallow can be used as topping for a sweet potato casserole. Is it dessert, is it a veggie side dish? No one knows.
