Schnitzel, Schnitzel und mehr Schnitzel!

Schnitzels have been a long-time favourite here at the market! If you’re not familiar with this German dish, it’s a piece of meat, pounded thin and coated in breadcrumbs. Usually fried until golden, but it can also be baked if you want something a little lighter. We make pork, chicken, and turkey schnitzels in-house and love having them for an easy weeknight dinner. Especially on a colder day, there is just something about a schintzel dinner that warms the belly and the soul! Plus, all of our schnitzels are made gluten-aware.

There are several ways to serve schnitzels, with a range of sauces and sides. You can find everything you need to make a rib-sticking meal at the market, and we’ve put together a list of our favourite ways to enjoy our schintzels.

The Classic

Fry up any of our schnitzels until golden brown, then serve with traditional German spaetzle, braised red cabbage, and a creamy mushroom-bacon sauce. This one is near and dear to our hearts and is a favourite family dinner. It’s hearty and delicious, but the cabbage provides a great balance to the creamy, savoury sauce!

The Land & Sea

This one has a surf-and-turf vibe and has a great balance of fresh and indulgent. Golden-brown schnitzel is layered with sautéed shrimp and creamy Béarnaise sauce, then served with a side of Lepp’s crisp butter lettuce. We sell a mix to make a quick, easy sauce, but you can also make your own from scratch. Grab a skewer of our Selva shrimp from the meat counter, and dinner is done.

The Gardener’s Favourite

Pairing a savoury schnitzel with a bright, crisp vegetable is a great way to balance your plate! We sauteed some radishes with butter, lemon juice, and garlic to reduce their bite a little bit. Don’t forget to keep the radish tops on for even more flavour and colour. We paired this one with some of Lepp’s Roasted Potatoes from the cafe, and dinner was done! The mix of textures and flavours on this plate is perfection!

If you’re entertaining and want to really lean into the German theme, you could always serve all three toppings and let people decide how to top their schnitzel, or leave it plain with a good sprinkling of sea salt. For a larger meal, you can also grab any of our housemade fresh sausages and a side of fresh-baked buns from Lepp’s Bakehouse. Everyone will have the perfect bite, just don’t forget a good stein of beer to wash it all down!

If you’re someone who wants something a little less traditional, there are truly endless meals you can create with our schnitzels! Try making a clubhouse-style sandwich with our turkey schnitzel, or even something like chicken parm with our chicken schnitzel. You can even try topping our pork schnitzel with a curry sauce and serving it with rice, or go Hawaiian style and serve it with fried pineapple. The best part about our schnitzels is the number of ways you can enjoy them. Pick up some schnitzels the next time you’re at the market, and have fun, experiment, and enjoy!
